Tonight there are three shows I can recommend. The only problem is that two of them are running opposite each other so you can see one or two of them, but not all three.
First up at 8pm, in the intimate, seated Rockwood Stage 3 is Danya Kurtz. Dayna will be playing her amalgam of blues, r&b, jazz, folk and whatever else she throws into the mix. Tonight’s show is solo. Since this is probably Dayna’s last show in NYC until next summer, this is one to show to catch.
Further uptown, Dan Bern will play Joe’s Pub at 9:30pm. Dan is the most prolific songwriter I know. He composed over a dozen songs for the spoof-biopic Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and wrote the title song for the documentary, Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains. In recent years, Dan has released two live albums, a children’s album Two Feet Tall, his first studio album in 6 years Drifter, an album of baseball songs Doubleheader, and an album based on the writings of Everett Ruess’ Wilderness Song.
Over in Williamsburg, you can catch Jeremiah Birnbaum at 10pm at Pete’s Candy Store. Jeremiah’s music runs the gamut from folk to Americana to blues and rock. He’s billing this show as Jeremiah Birnbaum and Friends, so we know that JB will be joined by some of his music making pals.
